Discord

Reelwire posts each video into one Discord channel through that channel's webhook: an address Discord makes for a channel so that software can post into it. No bot and no app to register; whoever may manage webhooks on the server makes one in a minute.

What you need

  • A webhook URL for the channel, from a server where you have the Manage Webhooks permission.

Set it up

  1. Make the webhook. In Discord, open Server Settings, Integrations, Webhooks, and press New Webhook. Give it the name and picture posts should show, choose the channel, and press Save Changes.
  2. Copy its address with Copy Webhook URL. It starts https://discord.com/api/webhooks/. Keep it to yourself: whoever holds it can post into that channel.
  3. Enter it in Reelwire. In Channels, open the channel's Settings, choose Discord as the Platform and the Aspect ratio, and paste the Webhook URL under Platform connector. Switch Platform connector on under When a post is due.
  4. Save. Reelwire asks Discord about the webhook and refuses an address that is not one, or that Discord no longer knows. Once saved, the section names the webhook.

What a post looks like

  • The text, up to 2,000 characters, with the video attached beneath it, played in the channel.
  • Nobody is pinged by it: an @everyone or an @name in a caption is sent as plain text.
  • The post's link opens the message in Discord for members of the server.

Discord limits what a webhook may attach: 10 MB on a server without boosts, more on a boosted one. A clip larger than the server takes is refused, and the post says so; a shorter clip, or a server with a higher limit, gets it through.

Changes and take-downs

Send update request changes the message's text, and Send delete request deletes the message: a webhook may do both to its own messages.

When something is wrong

The post saysWhat to do
Discord does not know this webhook any moreIt was deleted, or its channel was. Make a new one and save its address.
The video is larger than this server takesUse a shorter template, or boost the server.

To stop it, switch the connector off on the channel. To end it for good, delete the webhook in Server Settings, Integrations, Webhooks.
