Threema

Reelwire sends each video, end-to-end encrypted, to the Threema IDs you list, from your own Threema Gateway ID. The Threema Gateway is Threema's paid service for sending messages from software; it needs no review of anybody's app, only an ID of your own and credits for the messages.

Threema has no channels: each post is one message to each recipient, such as the members of a team.

What you need​

  • A Threema Gateway ID for end-to-end messages, eight characters starting with *, and its API secret. A Gateway ID for simple messages cannot send a video.
  • The private key you made for that ID: 64 hexadecimal characters.
  • The Threema IDs of the recipients, up to 50.
  • Credits in the Gateway account: every message to every recipient uses some.

Set it up​

  1. Open a Gateway account at gateway.threema.ch and buy credits.
  2. Make a key pair. Threema's Gateway SDKs make one; with the Python SDK, for example, pip install threema.gateway and then threema-gateway generate private.key public.key. The private key file holds private: followed by 64 hexadecimal characters. Keep it to yourself: it is what opens every message sent to your ID.
  3. Request the ID. In the Gateway dashboard, request a new ID of the End-to-End type, with the public key from step 2. Once Threema has set it up, the dashboard shows the ID and its API secret.
  4. Collect the recipients. Each recipient's Threema ID is on their My Profile in the Threema app: eight letters and digits.
  5. Enter it all in Reelwire. In Channels, open the channel's Settings, choose Threema as the Platform and the Aspect ratio, and under Platform connector paste the Gateway ID, the API secret, the Private key (with or without private: in front) and the Recipients, separated by commas. Switch Platform connector on under When a post is due.
  6. Save. Reelwire checks the ID and its secret with the Gateway, that the private key belongs to the ID, and that every recipient exists, and refuses to save if not.

What a post looks like​

A video message in each recipient's chat with your Gateway ID, played in the chat, with the text as its caption, up to 1,024 characters, and the clip's cover as its thumbnail. The video is encrypted before it leaves Reelwire, and only the recipient can open it.

A post counts as published once anybody received it. A recipient that could not be reached, an ID deleted since, for example, is named on the connector's line in the delivery log, and the others still get it. Without credits, nobody does, and the post says so.

Changes and take-downs​

Threema lets nobody change or take back a message once it is sent, so Send update request and Send delete request say so on the post. Mark as deleted closes it on Posts.

When something is wrong​

To stop it, switch the connector off on the channel. To end it for good, remove the saved credentials on the channel; the ID itself is closed in the Gateway dashboard.
